Hello everyone. I'm having some trouble with my computer. Somehow, all of my sounds got changed, and I have no idea how it happened. I went back and changed the ones that I could, but now I'm stuck on something. All of my windows messenger sounds got changed, so now, when someone logs in, or I receive a new message, it just does this ding noise, instead of the normal sound it's supposed to make. Well, I went into the sounds to try to change them back, but the original sounds werent' an option. does anyone know what I can do to get them back? I tried changing it back to the Windows default option, but even then, the original sounds didn't come back. It was just the weird ding. I'm also having trouble on this site. If I want to look at someone's profile, it doesn't allow me. It just makes this weird sound, and doesnt' allow me to look. someone told me a keystroke that I could use to look at the profiles, but it's strange that all of a sudden I have to do this. Does anyone know why? Sorry if I'm not making sense. I'm trying to explain everything the best I can. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with anything that's going on with my computer, but the other day, I installed JAWS 8.0. Like I said, I'm not sure if that can cause problems, but something is definitely going on, and I was wondering if any of you can help. Thanks.

the profile thing sounds like a firewall or pop up blocker to me.
Make sure they're turned off.
The other problem with the sounds, is more confusing and I think I can tell you how to set them back, I will post on here if I can figure it out later on.

System restore, meyhaps? Shift+enter will open profiles in a new window, allowing you to view them. Sometimes, windows update has been known to mess with so-called 'security settings' during the course of an installation process.

Oh okay. well, I heard that the profile problem may be a pop up problem, but I've never had that problem before. I really don't want to go with out a pop up block, so I guess there's not much I can do with that. It's just all so strange that it's happening now. As for the sounds problem, I've been trying to work with them, but I'm not getting anywhere with that one.

first, it isn't jaws 8. i haven't had a problem with it yet. second, do you use yahoo by any chance? they have a very annoying pop-up blocker on their toolbar.

No, I don't use Yahoo, but since you mention it, I do have the toolbar on my computer, because my sister and brother-in-law were using it for something. They'll be going home this weekend, so I'll be taking it off of the computer. I guess that could be the problem as far as the pop up thing goes. when they leave, I'll take it off the computer, since I don't use it anyway, and see if it helps. I'm still stuck with the sounds problem, though.

A couple things:
Are your sounds custom ones?
When you switch schemes, do you get a warning about deleted files?

Okay, my sister and brother-in-law left today, so I took the Yahoo toolbar off of my computer. This helped with the problem that I was having on this site, where I'd try to check out a profile, and I'd have to use a certain keystroke to look at them. However, my sounds are still wrong. I didn't have custom sounds. I never messed with them. I always just left them as they were, when I got the computer.

I got rid of the Yahoo toolbar. I wasn't using it. It just made its way onto my computer, after my sister and brother-in-law used my computer to upload songs onto their MP3 players. As for the program in the control panel, what the heck kind of program is that? I've never even heard of it. I'll take a look, but I'm not getting rid of anything, unless I know what it is.
